The Fools Run Poker run conducted by the Veterans MC Brisbane Chapter was scheduled to run on April 1st but the Brisbane floods made it a washout, so it was postponed to the 22nd. The day started with ominous dark clouds causing only the determined to venture out. Starting from the Sundowner at Haigslea and heading up towards Cabarlah the back way the air was cool and crisp but the threat of rain peeled away by the time we arrived at the Farmers Tavern for lunch and it turned out to be a really fine day.
We had a meal and drinks at the Farmers Tavern, a really biker friendly pub that I highly recommend as a stop-over point on any ride, and drew the raffle winner and lucky rider draw for a bottle of spirits. With the sun now shining and the day warmed up we set-off again heading down the ranges towards Esk, our next stop. With nice winding roads and little traffic the pace was picked up and everyone got into the tune with the pack remaining quite tight despite the pace. Everyone was just eating up the road and having a ball. By the time we arrived at Esk we experienced our first casualty with one of the bikes developing a flat tyre (of unknown causes) causing some of the boys from the Sons Of The Southern Cross (SOTSC SMC)to have to pull out.
We all had a few beers sitting on the benches at the Esk Pub. This is the choice stop in Esk as you can sit outside in comfort, have a smoke while keeping and eye on your bike, and watch the world go by.
Setting off North from there we shortly headed East to go around the Sommerset Dam heading towards Kilcoy. This is a nice scenic trip with plenty of tight turns and wide sweeping corners to get into. The pace was now opened right out leaving everyone to ride at the pace they felt comfortable with, as the next stop was the final destination, the D’Agular Pub known as the DAG.
Thanks to our generous sponsors we had heaps of prizes to raffle off, $200 cash money for Poker Run winner and prize for the worst hand, and lucky rider draws of bottles of spirit to give away, and even freebies to those who didn’t get something. So, everyone had a great day and got to go home with something in hand until next years Fools Run Poker Run.
